Quite frankly, I understand what this fortune is conveying, but I most certainly disagree. When working with people who are more experienced or better at something, you gain valuable knowledge and most times come out of the work better for it. But being the inexperienced member of a group is far from “fun”. You come out of the experience with a better understanding, but the road there isn’t necessarily enjoyable. Learning anything takes time and if you are behind simply because of circumstance or position, catching up is a difficult game. You could face harsh criticism, or even situations where people who know what they are doing just don’t want to take the time to help or explain. Also, who says you have to “compete” with these big shots? Is there is a reason that instead of learning from the experience, there is an unspoken compulsion to rival them? Why can’t someone improve for themselves, and not for the need to prove themselves in the eyes of people who in the end, may not even care? By using the word “giants”, the fortune makes it seem like these people are unreachable, and nearly foreign in terms of their ability. It makes the others seem unrelatable by comparing the higher ups to mythical giants. But we must remember, all of us are people. In conclusion, I find this fortune inaccurate because of its implication of necessary competition, its disconnect with potential struggles, and its poor wording.
