Publics take on Antwon Rose shooting by:

Antwon Rose was a 17- year-old male who attended Woodland Hills High School in Pittsburgh. Rose was a passenger in a car that was pulled over on June 19. Once pulled over Rose and another passenger fled from the car which was when a Pittsburgh police officer shot the unarmed Rose in the back three time — leading to his death.

Four people were interviewed concerning the situation.

Michael .C (who declined to give his full name), age 53, is a chemical engineer who lives in Kennedy Township. He comes from a family of policemen. With a father having been a city policemen,  Michael felt that it was a “difficult position” for the policemen to be.

We “shouldn’t be shooting people in the back” and the police need to to use more discretion in these kinds of situations, Michael said.

Michael expressed that people need to vent their opinions and if that be protesting or writing articles people have that right. In the end Michael says that “No one should die like that”.

Ray Kelley, age 46, is an accountant living in Penn Hills. Kelley said his main concern being the “Hope the society in general isn’t desensitized”.

Kelley said he feels we have a serious issue with the law enforcement. To fix this kind of situation, “It starts with the society”.

James Hill, age 24, is the mayor’s executive assistant and lives in Manchester. Hill’s main concern for the society and the City of Pittsburgh concerning the situation is keeping people safe. Hill says the question that needs to be asked is “How can we make sure this doesn’t happen again”. Hill lastly says “I hope it’s the type of inspiration bigger than just media hype”.

Celina Pompeani, age 25, works for KDKA-TV as a traffic anchor and is also the PensTV host, lives in Robinson Township. She says it’s a “Tough situation”. She also feels that the protests concerning the incident are “A taste into the future” if these kinds of events continue. Chelsea Pompeani, Celina’s older sister, said, “You need to not just react” and when in these types of situations thinking before reacting is the best way to go about it. Celina Pompeani feels that the number of times Rose was shot ,being three, was “excessive”.

The police officer involved with the shooting has been charged with one count of criminal homicide.
