Quigley: Behind the Camera at PPG Paints Arena

Behind the Camera at PPG Paints Arena

Story by: Dylan Quigley

The goal throughout the Point Parks Journalism camp is to gather information on a certain topic or occurrence going around around Pittsburgh today and learn about journalism in general. The behind the scenes process of working at a organization similar to PPG Paints Arena and the Washington Wild Things Baseball Park was one of the many options to choose from. Along with many other sources, Celina Pompeani of PensTV provided some insight on what it is like to work in such environment.

The following includes some of the questions and answers from an interview with Pompeani. Celina Pompeani is an Emmy Award winning TV Host/Producer for the Pittsburgh Penguins program PensTV. Pompeani is also a morning traffic anchor for KDKA-TV.

Q: Did you have any experience working with cameras other than just being in front of the camera?

A; “…One week I would anchor, and then one week I would run the camera, or I would direct, so that was great too. So yeah I did a little bit of everything.”

Q: With all of your PensTV work do you do any editing towards that?

A: “I edit everything which is nice; I really like editing. So we started with Final Cut, and then now we are trying to transition into Premier; and I really like Premier. So I would edit all of my Pens Trends pieces; which that took a long time. There’s so many little details in that, and then I edit my packages, and pretty much anything I work on I’ll be editing it.”

Pompeani provided some great insight on what is like to work in a large arena like PPG Paints; as well as what it is like to be both behind and in front of the camera.
